Honkai: Nexus Anima Release, Pre-Registration & Walkthrough

Honkai: Nexus Anima is HoYoverse’s first real attempt at a creature collector, and the studio is treating it like a proper new pillar of the Honkai universe rather than a side experiment.

It mixes Anima bonding, auto-chess style battles, and light open-world exploration into one package, and the next closed beta is close enough that pre-registering actually matters right now.

So when it drops, what do we need to know about pre-registration and beta sign-ups, and what does the game look like on all platforms?

Honkai: Nexus Anima Release Date

HoYoverse has not announced a global release date for Honkai: Nexus Anima. What we do have is a beta history that tells us roughly how close the game is.

The first major test, the Nexus Bond Test, ran from September 17 to September 23, 2025, on PC and iOS.

The next one, the Evolution Test, opens its servers on July 9, 2026, across PC, iOS, and Android, with HoYoverse describing it as nearly a year of refinement and optimization layered on top of the first build.

No end date for this test has been announced, which is unusual for HoYoverse and suggests the team wants a longer feedback window than a typical weeklong CBT.

HoYoverse typically runs two to three closed betas before a global launch, and the gap between Genshin Impact’s and Honkai: Star Rail’s beta cycles and their eventual release dates points to a similar pattern here.

Community estimates built on that cadence put a realistic launch somewhere in late 2026 or early 2027, but that’s speculation built from precedent, not anything HoYoverse has confirmed.

Treat any specific launch date you see elsewhere as a guess until it shows up on the official channels.

How to Pre-register for Honkai Nexus Anima

Pre-registration is open now through the official site at hna.hoyoverse.com. You log in with a HoYoverse account, and the page tracks milestone counts (HoYoverse has referenced thresholds like 15 million and 20 million sign-ups in past promotional material) tied to in-game rewards once the game actually launches.

The exact reward list hasn’t been published in full, so don’t bank on specific items until HoYoverse confirms them.

Pre-registering is also the gateway into beta access. For the Evolution Test specifically, recruitment opened June 22, 2026, and closes July 3, 2026, ahead of the test’s July 9 start. To get a shot at a slot:

• Go to the official website and log into your HoYoverse account.
• Complete the recruitment questionnaire, which asks about your device and play habits.
• Wait for selection. Access is decided by a lottery pulled from the pool of applicants, not granted to everyone who signs up.
• Watch for a notification through the website, email, or SMS if you’re picked.

There’s a second route in if the questionnaire doesn’t land you a spot: HoYoverse has been running social media recruitment campaigns on the official Honkai: Nexus Anima accounts, where following the page, submitting your account ID, and quote-reposting a designated announcement enters you into additional test access and merchandise giveaways, including physical items like character standees and plushies.

Platforms: Where You’ll be able to Play

Honkai: Nexus Anima is built for PC, iOS, and Android, and the Evolution Test is the first one to run on all three at once (the Nexus Bond Test skipped Android).

HoYoverse has already published recommended specs for the beta: an Intel Core i5-11400F or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X with an RTX 2060 or RX 5600 XT on PC, and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 or equivalent on mobile, with support extending to M1-and-later iPads.

Cross-platform support from this early in testing lines up with how HoYoverse has run Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail since launch, so day-one parity across devices is a reasonable expectation, even though it isn’t formally confirmed for the full release yet.

Story and Setting: the Nexus, the Sundering, and 81 Fractured Planes

The premise centers on the Nexus, the invisible bond connecting opposing forces such as Light and Dark, Life and Death, or Love and Hate.

A cataclysm called the Sundering tore those bonds apart, collapsing the old, unified world and splitting it into 81 separate Planes. The remnants of that collapse took shape as Anima, beings of raw essence that players now recruit and bond with.

In the new, fractured order, each Plane answers to a single ruler called a Novarch, while the old world’s paired forces were once balanced by figures known as Sovereigns.

Some of those Sovereigns are still around in new forms. Victus, the first Sovereign and master of Order and Chaos, is now the Novarch of Order, while Armand, the eighth Sovereign and master of Light and Dark, became the Novarch of Dark after imprisoning the Novarch of Light.

You play a Planestrider, a dimension-hopping traveler who escapes captivity with no memory of their past and lands in Iia, a quiet town in the Reality Plane.

The Evolution Test expands Iia considerably, opening up its New Quarter, commercial districts, and key locations like Nexus Hall and the True Nexus Building, where factional figures and their competing ideals start to surface.

As you bond with Anima and meet characters along the way, the story works toward two things at once: piecing together your own erased history and untangling how the Sundering actually happened.

Honkai: Nexus Anima Gameplay & Combat

Combat plays out in what HoYoverse calls Nexus Battles, and the format is auto-chess. You place your Anima on a board, set your formation, and the fight resolves on its own once it starts.

Two layers of identity decide how a team performs: Aspect, which functions as each Anima’s elemental or conceptual affinity (Light, Dark, War, Memory, and others shown so far), and Trait, which acts more like a class or role, covering things like Striker, Protector, Blaster, and Mastermind.

Augments, picked between rounds, layer temporary buffs and economy bonuses on top of whatever team you’ve built, and player characters can offer off-field support abilities alongside the Anima doing the actual fighting.

Outside of battle, the game leans hard into the bonding half of its identity. Anima evolve as your relationship with them deepens, and HoYoverse frames each evolution as a marker of that bond rather than just a stat upgrade.

You can snap a photo to mark the moment you meet a new companion and give it a custom name, and on rarer occasions you’ll run into a Chromatic Anima, a rare-variant version of a normal creature that turns an ordinary encounter into something worth remembering.

Some Anima double as mounts, letting you glide, gallop, or fly across a Plane instead of just walking it.

Honkai: Nexus Anima Characters and Anima Worth Knowing

The cast splits into two groups: Animasters, the human and human-like characters who travel with you, and Anima, the creatures you collect and fight alongside.

On the Animaster side, Nanafey has been the face of most promotional material so far, alongside Maple Manybell, the Deputy Arena Master of Iia, and Olympia, the Acting Director of the True Nexus Syndicate’s local branch.

Kiana, returning from Honkai Impact 3rd, shows up as a Planestrider in her own right and received her first English voice acting in the Honkai series in the Evolution Test trailer.

Bai Mei, the current Novarch of Reality and a celebrity elected through what the game calls a Material Lip vote, and Blade, reimagined here as the 22nd Novarch of a Plane nicknamed “The Peak,” round out the higher-profile cast pulled in from elsewhere in the Honkai universe.

On the Anima side, the roster leans into variety over a single visual theme. Puddlipup, a dog-shaped pudding creature, and Scorscythe, a dragon with a bladed tail, have shown up consistently across beta footage and community breakdowns.

Bunmareen blends a jellyfish with a rabbit, Chocllamour is built around an oddly affectionate llama design, and Inkifoal evolves into a creature called Atragacus partway through its growth line.

HoYoverse has stated the full roster will run into the hundreds once the game is feature-complete, so what’s visible now is a fraction of the eventual lineup.

What We Still Don’t Know: Monetization and the Gacha System

And this is where it’s worth being blunt instead of guessing in the form of fact: HoYoverse has not detailed how Honkai: Nexus Anima will charge players.

The Evolution Test itself has no monetization enabled at all, since it’s a free, data-wiping beta with no real-money systems live.

Earlier beta data and third-party breakdowns suggest a store unlocks around character level 14, using a currency referred to as Aspect Gems, and that some higher-rarity Anima may come through milestone-based selection at specific levels rather than a traditional random banner pull.

If that holds into the full release, it would actually look less like a standard gacha pity system and more like a guided pick, which is a meaningfully different structure from the 50/50 banners HoYoverse runs in Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

None of this is locked in, and HoYoverse could land on something else entirely by global launch. Anyone telling you the exact pity rate, banner split, or pull cost right now is filling in blanks that HoYoverse hasn’t filled in itself.

Honkai: Nexus Anima is still working through its testing phase, and there’s no confirmed release date or finalized monetization model to plan around yet.
