Varsapura: A New Realistic Game from HoYoverse!

HoYoverse has once again surprised the global gaming community with the release of a 31-minute gameplay showcase from their newest project, titled Varsapura. Far different from HoYoverse’s usual colorful, anime-style, fantasy-driven identity, Varsapura instead appears dark, realistic, and reminiscent of a psychological thriller game.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game delivers highly detailed visuals from lighting, textures, and weather effects to lifelike facial animations. It’s no wonder many early viewers even mistook it for a game not made by HoYoverse.

And from the gameplay demo alone, it’s clear that Varsapura could become the most ambitious project HoYoverse has ever created.

New Game Varsapura, HoYoverse’s Experimental Project

Varsapura (or Varsapura, as listed on HoYoLAB) appears to be a new IP that combines elements of psychological thriller, supernatural themes, investigation, open-world exploration, and action hack-and-slash combat. The game presents a modern urban world filled with dimensional distortions, strange creatures, and a mental phenomenon called Mind Rod.

Visually, Varsapura departs significantly from the fantasy-anime style seen in Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, or Zenless Zone Zero, leaning instead toward realistic graphics, casual character outfits, and a much darker overall tone.

Varsapura Release Date

Currently, there is no official release date for Varsapura, and HoYoverse is still actively recruiting for the project across their studios in Shanghai, Singapore, and Los Angeles, indicating that the game remains in an early stage of development. 

There is also no information yet on whether the game will be multi-platform, free-to-play with a gacha system, or released as a premium AAA title. However, given the impressive graphical quality shown so far, many fans speculate that Varsapura will likely target PC and console platforms first.

The gameplay footage reveals several main characters, including:

1. MC (Protagonist) – The Umbrella Combat User

Uses a combat umbrella as both a weapon and shield. His fighting style is fast, agile, and features dramatic rain effects.

2. Sayuki – Fighter with Paper/Document Powers

A short-haired female character with unique abilities using documents as weapons. Her ultimate skill is extremely cinematic and reminiscent of paper-themed characters from anime.

3. Harley Quinn–Like Female Character

Sporting an eccentric style and flashy attacks, she is believed to be a high-mobility DPS unit.

4. Mr. Shadow & the Mysterious Cat

Members of SEAL, a mysterious organization seemingly responsible for recruiting and testing dimensional investigators.

Story & Worldbuilding

Varsapura takes place in a modern world plagued by dimensional anomalies called Mind Rod, a form of psychological distortion that manifests faceless creatures and surreal phenomena.

SEAL functions as a special unit tasked with handling these cases. The protagonist is recruited after undergoing psychological evaluations, interviews, and dangerous simulations.

From its tone and setting, the game blends:

Varsapura Gameplay

Gameplay is the most surprising aspect of Varsapura. Unlike HoYoverse’s typical formula, Varsapura introduces a unique combination of mechanics:

Destructible environments also appear, something rarely seen in mobile-oriented games.

One of the biggest surprises is the open-world segment where players can drive cars much like in GTA, complete with drifting, crashing into roadside objects, and freely exploring a modern city. The wet asphalt reflections and highly dynamic lighting effects look incredibly realistic, perfectly showcasing the visual power of Unreal Engine 5.

Varsapura Specs & Engine

Varsapura is developed with Unreal Engine 5, making it HoYoverse’s most visually impressive project to date. The official description confirms that the demo was running on an RTX 4090, yet it still experienced occasional frame drops highlighting just how demanding the game’s visual effects and world rendering truly are. 

Because of this, many believe the game is primarily targeting high-end PCs and next-gen consoles, while a mobile release remains uncertain due to the heavy performance requirements of UE5.
