Disclaimer: This summary was created using Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Maximizing your damage ceiling in Shiyu Defense or surviving the highest intensity nodes in Hollow Zero requires a flawless understanding of all Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) characters.
As theorycrafters who spend hours calculating Daze multipliers, analyzing Anomaly buildup rates, and optimizing frame-perfect Defensive Assists, we know that slapping random high-rarity units together doesn’t work.
Success in this game relies on rigid elemental formulas, tight faction passives, and exploiting massive multiplier windows during a boss’s Stun phase.
With the launch of Version 2.8 (“New: Eridan Sunset”), the roster has expanded to 52 playable Agents, introducing advanced mechanics like the Rupture specialty and brand-new elemental attributes.
So our compiled catalog breaks down every single character by specialty, faction, rarity, and elemental attribute while evaluating their definitive place in the current endgame meta.
All ZZZ Characters by Faction

ZZZ Characters by Rarity
Rarity in ZZZ breaks down to S-Rank and A-Rank. S-Ranks are higher-baseline, typically limited-banner pulls with special mechanics and stronger Mindscape Cinemas.
A-Ranks are more accessible; available on standard banners, event shops, and often bundled on limited banners as companion rates.

The gap to S-Rank is narrower than it looks when you’re working with their specific mechanics.

ZZZ Characters by Specialty
Your squad needs to cover three functional slots efficiently: someone to deal damage, someone to build Daze and trigger Stun windows, and a Support or Anomaly anchor to amplify the whole chain. Here’s where every agent slots in.
Attack (DPS)

Stun (Daze / CC)

A dedicated Stunner is non-negotiable at high-level Shiyu Defense. A well-maintained Stun window multiplies your whole team’s damage output, and anyone who’s hit the cancel window just before the Chain Attack fires knows exactly why Stunner selection matters.
Agents like Lycaon and Lighter hit Daze thresholds fast and consistently, keeping the enemy locked through your entire DPS rotation.

Anomaly (DoT / Status Application)

Anomaly agents are the backbone of the Disorder meta. Stacking multiple Anomaly types on a single target and chaining Disorder procs is how top ZZZ players consistently 3-star endgame content with time to spare.
Promeia in v2.8 adds a serious Ice Anomaly option; her DEF-ignore passive pushes Ice Abloom compositions to a tier they haven’t reached before.

| Luciana de Montefio (Lucy) | A | Fire | ATK buff; accessible Fire support for Calydon compositions |
| Nicole Demara | A | Ether | DEF Shred; underrated value in Ether attack teams |
Defense

Rupture (Newest Specialty)

Rupture is the most recently added Specialty, sitting between Attack and Anomaly in playstyle; burst-oriented with strong break potential.
Starlight Billy in v2.8 is the game’s first Physical Rupture agent, opening Physical comp archetypes that simply didn’t exist before.
The theorycrafting around Rupture compositions is still actively evolving.
| Agent | Rank | Attribute | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yixuan | S | Auric Ink | Yunkui Summit Rupture carry; unique Auric Ink break interaction |
| Banyue | S | Fire | Fire Rupture burst; needs specific team slots to shine |

| Yidhari Murphy | S | Ice | Ice Rupture; Spook Shack; niche but functional in dedicated comps |
| Komano Manato | A | Fire | Accessible Fire Rupture option; Spook Shack faction |
Current Endgame ZZZ Agents Tier Overview (v2.8)

Your Drive Disc rolls and team synergy matter more than tier position alone.

| T1 | Qingyi, Promeia, Yanagi, Vivian Banshee, Aria, Jane Doe, Burnice, Ye Shunguang, Harumasa, Nangong Yu, Dialyn, Caesar King, Zhu Yuan, Ju Fufu, Yixuan, Rina |

New & Upcoming ZZZ Agents (v2.8+)

1. Promeia – S-Rank · Ice · Anomaly · Slash · Krampus Compliance Authority
Promeia is a former Sweeper, someone tasked with eliminating Ethereals and those too corrupted to save, treating them as “necessary sacrifices.”

After confronting the moral weight of that role, she accepted exile and judgment, becoming a Krampus Judge. That “poor moth” motif runs through her entire kit design, not just her story.
Mechanically, she’s an Abloom specialist. Her loop builds Corrosive Chill stacks, transitions into a Trial by Cold resource, and triggers Ice Anomaly DoT with a passive that ignores a portion of enemy DEF.
Her Bound Absolution state grants auto-dodge capability, making her more forgiving to pilot than most Anomaly carries. The Core Passive amplifies squad-wide Abloom damage, and her Mindscapes push DEF ignore and self-restoration further.
Her best compositions pair her with a dedicated Support (Soukaku or Astra Yao) and a second Anomaly agent; Yanagi or Vivian Banshee for cross-element Disorder chains is the current theorycrafted optimum. T1 consensus at launch with T0 potential in dedicated Ice Anomaly builds.
- Banner: Phase 1, May 6–27, 2026. Rerun companions: Soukaku, Lucy.
2. Starlight – Billy Kid – S-Rank · Physical · Rupture · Cunning Hares

The upgraded Billy; motorcycle tricks, flying kicks, and a high-mobility Rupture kit that turns the previously limited Billy Kid into a legitimate carry.
Physical Rupture didn’t exist as an archetype before v2.8, which means the full optimal team compositions are still being worked out by the community.
Reception has been strong, especially among F2P players who invested in Billy early.
- Banner: Phase 2, May 27 – June 16, 2026. Rerun companions: Orphie & Magus.
Confirmed Upcoming Agents (Post-v2.8)
| Agent | Rank | Attribute | Specialty | Faction | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Norma Hollowell![]() | S | Fire | Stun | External Strategy Dept. | New Fire Stun option; debut of a new faction |
Velina Airgid![]() | S | Wind | Anomaly | External Strategy Dept. | First Wind attribute agent in ZZZ. Entirely new Anomaly type incoming |
Pyrois![]() | TBD | Ether | Attack | Phaethon | Playable proxy form; significant lore weight and Ether Attack coverage |
Team Synergy & Faction Passives in Zenless Zone Zero
ZZZ team-building is a chain of enablers; Attribute pairing for Disorder/Abloom triggers, Specialty pairing (Stunner + DPS + Support is still the core loop), and Faction matching for Bangboo and passive bonuses.
Victoria Housekeeping — The Evergreen Core

Lycaon + Ellen is still the benchmark Stun + Attack pairing in ZZZ. Add Soukaku and the loop is textbook: Soukaku buffs Ice ATK, Lycaon builds Daze and locks the target, Ellen dumps damage during the Stun window.
Rina fits when you need additional Pen rate and Electric coverage, especially against high Physical RES targets. Victoria Bangboo passives reward running two or more Victoria members, so build toward that when you can.
Sons of Calydon — Sustained Fire/Physical Output

Caesar + Burnice + Lucy and Caesar + Lighter + Evelyn are the two most reliable Calydon structures. Caesar’s shielding and counter mechanics protect your DPS agents while generating consistent damage throughout the rotation.
The Calydon Bangboo amplifies Fire/Physical damage with two Calydon members active; Lucy’s ATK buff stacks cleanly on top, keeping the damage floor high even outside Stun windows.
Section 6 — Ice/Electric Disorder

Miyabi + Yanagi is the premier Disorder composition in the current meta. Yanagi applies Electric Anomaly; Miyabi applies Frost Anomaly; hitting both on one target triggers Disorder, a massive burst proc.
Soukaku or Astra Yao fills the third slot as the buffer. This composition has maintained the highest single-team damage ceiling for multiple consecutive patches and still holds through v2.8.
Belobog — F2P Electric/Fire Accessibility

Koleda + Grace + Anton is the pure Belobog faction team. Not T0, but genuinely accessible for early-to-mid endgame before you build out S-Rank rosters.
Grace’s Electric Anomaly stacks DoT that Anton’s Pierce attacks trigger efficiently. The Belobog Bangboo adds bonus damage for faction matches; a real option for newer players.
Krampus (v2.8) — Abloom Ice Anomaly

Promeia’s squad Abloom passive makes the Krampus Ice composition more viable than any previous Ice Anomaly team.
The theorycrafted direction is Promeia + Soukaku (buffer) + second Anomaly agent (Yanagi or Vivian for cross-element Disorder).
Zhao fills the Defense slot to keep the team safe while Promeia runs her Corrosive Chill loop. This comp is still being solved by the community post-launch.
W-Engine Notes (F2P vs Signature)
Full W-Engine optimization is a deep topic on its own, but the framework is consistent: every agent has a signature W-Engine tuned to their specific Core Passive mechanic, and an accessible F2P alternative that still clears endgame content without it.
| Agent | Signature W-Engine | Best F2P Alternative |
|---|---|---|
Hoshimi Miyabi![]() | Timeweaver![]() | Fusion Compiler (craftable)![]() |
Ellen Joe![]() | Deep Sea Visitor![]() | Steel Cushion / The Brimstone![]() |
Von Lycaon![]() | The Restrained![]() | Steam Oven (craftable)![]() |
Lighter![]() | Blazing Laurels![]() | Precious Fossilized Core![]() |
Qingyi![]() | Demara Battery Mark II![]() | Steam Oven![]() |
Astra Yao![]() | Kaboom the Cannon![]() | Slice of Time / Weeping Gemini![]() |
Promeia![]() | Shattered Frost | Fusion Compiler / BP option![]() |
Caesar King![]() | Original Transmorpher![]() | Bunny Band![]() |
Tsukishiro Yanagi![]() | Timeweaver![]() | Fusion Compiler![]() |
Soukaku![]() | Weeping Gemini![]() | Slice of Time![]() |
The gap between signature and F2P is real at endgame, roughly 10–20% in clear speed and damage ceiling, but most Shiyu Defense and Hollow Zero content is clearable with correct team composition and well-rolled Drive Discs before W-Engine optimization even becomes the bottleneck. Farm your discs first.
